Matt Walsh, who claimed that he had the smoking gun against the New England Patriots, met with commissioner Roger Goodell and brought 2 shocking accusations to the table.
1: The Patriots had a player that was on Injured Reserve practice. Those fucking bastards!
2: Players were scalping Super Bowl tickets. The nerve, no one else does that!
Anything else Mr. Walsh?
Rumors of a videotaping of the Rams walkthrough before Super Bowl XXXVI proved to be false. Goodell said (more after jump) Walsh was on the field during the walkthrough, in Patriots gear. The fact that he dressed in Patriots gear on the sideline should prove that it was not a illegal thing. If the Rams thought that patriots employees clearly dressed in team gear shouldn’t have been there, they would have said something.
More concerning is the talking heads declaring that Goodell was lying out his ass when he said that the minimal impact that the affair had towards the Patriots success. Sal Paolantonio declared that this was serious becuase Ernie Adams was involved and he only gets involved in the big things. Sal thinks that because Ernie Adams is a big player (which he is) that every fucking thing he does has a significant impact.
Never mind that many former players and coaches were declaring how overblown this scandal was overblown. Roger Goodell, the same Roger Goodell who levied an historic punishment for the illegal tapes stated that he believed they had little effect on the games played. Now it is true that Goodell does have a vested interest in Spygate going away and his comments must not be taken for granted, but ESPN has a vested interest in Spygate not going away, so their comments must be taken with a grain of salt as well. Not to mention that fact that Goodell actually has seen all the evidence and ESPN for the most part has to speculate on the events.
This is not to say that the PAtriots did not cheat, they did. This is not to say that any sense of schenfreude on the Giants win based on this incident is not well deserved. This is just saying that the taping of signals from a location the Patriots were not permitted to (rather than one that they are permitted to) did not have a the huge impact that certain people think it did.
